The key function of the WinDrive is to control and convert the variable speed input of the wind turbine rotor into a constant and stable output speed.
Using the WinDrive, the wind turbine rotor is operated at its greatest efficiency point, in any wind speed within its operating range. At rated wind turbine power, the WinDrive offers enhanced control for better limitation of system torque by allowing for increased speed of the gears between the turbine rotor and the WinDrive unit.
Control is achieved through a hydrodynamic converter coupled to the ring gear of a planetary gear set which is superimposing a stepless and constant change in gear ratios. The coupling allows various conversion ratios to be set between input speed and output speed.
